I’m going to support this site because not supporting this site is making not supporting this site a religion. You’d think there was some kind of religious atheist dogma that atheists shall not organize. It’s okay to organize as atheists. It’s okay to make an official organization that helps atheists overcome legal barriers. It’s okay to make an organization that gives atheists privileges reserved only for theists. These things do not bring with it the same problems of theistic religions, because we do not have the dogma of religions. We do not dictate any part of how you run your life. We do not dictate any part of your lifestyle. The only common factor is that we do not believe there are any deities. My job is more of a religion than the first church of atheism is.

Amen, TravCav!!
In fact, it is the theists’ ability to organize effectively that makes them such a powerfully influential political force. The squeaky wheel gets the grease, and unfortunately, the only way to generate the kind of volume required to make the atheist voice heard is to organize. And if borrowing theistic terminology (i.e., “Church” & “minister”) helps to accomplish the particular goal of providing atheists with their own legitimate ceremonial officiates (at least in the short-term), I am all for it.
