Yeah, hi all, I was dragged along to a Roman Catholic church, was baptized, confirmed, all against my knowledge really.

Now I'm bringing up my child to be a free-thinker.

Great article. I've always thought that your beliefs choose you, you can't CHOOSE your beliefs. Whether you come to the church early (or not at all), what you believe in isn't in your control. That's the great thing about free will. You can choose NOT to believe, and it's a valid choice.

Many in the church forget that fact. I'm agnostic myself (not quite athiest, but not really sure either) and the main thing that turns me off of most religions is the hypocracy and violence either inherent to or caused-by the beliefs in a higher power. I'll believe when it's time for me to believe,.. or I won't. No amount of church-going is REALLY going to save my soul (if I have one) if I don't believe.

Great article.

I had the opportunity to attend several variations of Christian church before becoming an Atheist at age 15. A good number of people I know are non-believers or inactive: but there is a hesitancy among many to cross the line from practicing non-belief to embracing it. There is a stigma attached to non-belief, and it would be foolish to believe it will go away: I think God is wired in our brains somehow; there will always be the side of someone that wants life to be more than its miseries. How we experience life, is what leads us to find solutions in fairy tales.
